Welcome to the New Season

Welcome to the 2011 - 2012 season at Ice Dance Elite, the premier Centre of Excellence for competitive ice dance teams. We are working on our newly designed website, and look forward to sharing all our exciting experiences as we head into the upcoming season. This has been a year of changes in the program, and we are keen to share our new look, both on and off the ice.

Ice Dance Elite continued to increase its members this year, with up to 40 skaters taking part in the program as teams or single dancers. We are attracting international attention, and were joined by skaters representing the U.S, Hungary and Bulgaria this summer.

In international competition, I.D.E had a wonderful season, our best ever. In the junior division we had 3 teams receiving JGP assignments and 1 team at the Junior World Championships.

In senior internationals, we had 4 GP assignments, Gold and silver GP medals, a GP final 3rd place finish, and World team members with a top 10 finish. In the 4 Continents event, we achieved a bronze medal.

At the National level our teams excelled themselves. In senior we had the Canadian Champions for the first time in our history, and 4th place finishes, both teams joining the National Team Squad. In junior we had the silver medalists. In Novice we have the bronze medalists. Our Novice team took 2nd place at Canada Winter Games. Our teams also attended many other events during the season, such as Minto, Thornhill, Lake Placid, Octoberfest, Sectionals, East and West Challenge, as well as the Oberstdorf selection event.

Our annual “So You Think You Can Judge?” gala, was once again a great success, and was held at Thornhill arena in July 2010. Teams showcased their new programs and were reviewed by international judges and technical specialists, as well as a very large and appreciative audience.

Coach Juris Razgulajevs was awarded the Skate Canada Competitive Coaching award of Excellence in 2011. Carol was selected by the ISU, the figure skating governing body, to coach at the prestigious novice junior dance seminar held in Oberstdorf, Germany in April 2011, her third time as a coach at this seminar. This seminar has tripled in size over the past 3 years, and this year Carol was joined by IDE coaches Juris Razgulagevs and Jon Lane. They were accompanied by 3 of I.D.E’s Canadian Novice dance teams, who learned a lot from these international experiences.

In order to facilitate our on and off ice conditioning, this year I.D.E has purchased parachutes for our training program through skater development, and added weekly psychology classes through the summer.
