The National Figure Skating Championship this year was the best yet. With all of the outstanding skating, and cutting edge skills, the performances were fabulous. The environment was extremely competitive, but at the same time, extremely friendly. All of the skaters at the national level get along really well, as we compete against each other at many competitions through out the year. My partner and I had an awesome year. We started off a little shaky in Lake Placid, but as the year progressed we became more comfortable with each other, and our skating became more synchronized. We had a hard time keeping on our feet in the free dance in the start. It wasn't until Sectionals that Laura and I had a clean run through, and then again at Nationals, we had another clean skate. Even though the rink in Ottawa wasn't the greatest because of the fire retardant insulation falling down from the ceiling onto the ice, it was still a great experience. It's always fun to walk around behind the scenes with all the best skaters in Canada, and have cameras all around you filming. The Ice Dance Elite displayed great team support as well all watched and cheered each other on as we skated, and comforted each other when things got rough. I think the skating experience this year was the best by far, as well, it's always nice when you have people come up to you and ask you for your autograph, and tell you how much they loved your performances. This was definitely a Canadian National Championship to remember. |
