The skaters of Ice Dance Elite were given the oppurtunity by the Skater Development Committee (to whom we are grateful) to witness the Tony Award-winning Broadway show 'Movin' Out' on Monday December 19, 2005. This dance/theatre piece is a combination of choreography by the outstanding Twyla Tharp and classic rock music of Billy Joel. The music was excellent, performed by a live band. The choreography was not as enjoyable. It felt mediocre and unimpressive. It did not help that one of the main characters was absent and replaced by a very weak understudy. There was a handful of strong dancers--some ballet, some rhythmic. However, this did not mask a storyline that was hard to follow and awkward at times. To say the least, it was definitly not what we expected.
