Juris began his skating career in his native Latvia. At the age of 15 he was spotted by the former Olympic champion and coach, Natalia Linichuk, and selected to join her elite dance group in Moscow. Under her direction he became Junior World Champion with his first partner Aliki Stergiadu. In 1995 after competing in the Lillehammer Olympics, Juris relocated to the United States with Natalia and her group. With his new partner he went on to represent Japan, and began training with Natalia Dubova in Lake Placid. During this period Juris was twice National champion of Japan, and represented Japan at the World Championships. Juris made many Grand prix appearances over a seven year period, winning or medaling on many occasions. After the 1997 World Championships in Lausanne, Juris made the decision to join the professional ranks, and in 1999 came to Canada with his wife Irina and son Dmitri. Joining the Scarboro F.S.C., his choreographic genius has been a huge factor in putting Ice Dance Elite on the map. Juris has trained and competed with some of the top teams in the world, including Grischtuk and Platov, 1992and 1994 Olympic Champions, Annisina and Peizerat, 2002 Olympic Champions
