Once again Ice Dance Elite coaches Carol and Jon Lane gave their annual adult ice dance course at the German National Training center in the picturesque town of Oberstdorf, from June 19th to July 3rd 2006.
A bi-yearly event, the courses take place over two weeks in June and September each year, and are attended by dancing friends old and new from Europe and North America. Superbly organized by International coach Marie-Therese Kreiselmeyer, the courses feature four hours of group instruction each day, with the opportunity for a public dance hour and additional practice. The Oberstdorf skating facility is one of the finest in the world, containing two full size ice surfaces plus a small "mirror rink" much in demand for practicing those fine technical points.
On the first week the morning class is an introductory level, featuring dances such as the Dutch Waltz, Fox movement, and Golden Skaters Waltz. In the afternoon things hot up, and we tackle the more complex steps in things like the Tango, Willow Waltz, and Cha Cha Congelado. The second week is a more advanced level, where we see things like the Westminster Waltz, Argentine Tango, and this year, the Austrian Waltz! We were so proud of our skaters in this group in June, all of whom were able to tackle the Austrian Waltz after a solid week of hard work. In September, when Jon works with Marie Therese and Juris Razgulajevs, they will be tackling the Golden Waltz. It promises to be an exciting and interesting week.
Skaters of all levels are welcome in the courses. We have a strong philosophy of using sound fundamental skating skills, and at least a half hour each morning and afternoon is devoted to basic skating techniques. Some of our participants have a long history in Oberstdorf, and can almost tell Jon's stories before he can! We believe that dancing is for everyone, and hope that by participating in our courses, you will enjoy your dancing for many years to come. We have made so many friends over the years, and it is always so nice to see all our old friends, and make some new ones.
See you in Oberstdorf!
