Junior Grand Prix Andorra

Vanessa Crone and Paul Poirier, skated to a 7th place finish in their junior grand prix assignment in beautiful Andorra in September 2005.
After a good start in the Austrian Waltz, they skated first in the OD and really wowed the crowd, coming 5th in the OD and receiving the 3rd highest technical scores in the event.

After an unfortunate fall in the fd they slipped back to 7th, but still had potentially the 3rd highest technical score. Given their ages, Paul is 13, Vanessa 14; this team has a great future ahead of them. Again, it was nice to see the technical panel recognize the difficulty of their footwork, hope this spills over into domestic events!

Well done Ferrets! Up

North American Challenge Skate
Pierrefonds, August 2005

Congratulations to Vanessa Crone and Paul Poirier on their bronze medal in the Junior Dance event. Despite horrendous accounting inconsistencies, which have yet to be satisfactorily explained, they skated extremely well on their way to a 3rd place. Andrea Chong and Spencer Barnes started well with a second place in compulsories, but did not have their greatest overall skate and finished 4th.

There seem to be many glitches in the new judging system, which are being swept under the rug. We owe it to the skaters to make sure that results are correctly posted, and not hidden until it is too late to do anything about it. If the new system is to be seen to be better, it must be properly presented and be accountable. If it is not, are we any better off than we were before?

Keep up the good work guys! Up
