Vanessa Crone and Paul Poirier

Canadian Champions

At the 2008 Canadian National Championships in Vancouver, Vanessa and Paul performed their Tango Free Dance at this, their first ever senior event. They earned level 4 for all of their elements in their Original Dance and Free Dance, and placed 2nd in the Free Dance. At the 2008 Junior World Championships in Sophia, Bulgaria, they repeated these phenomenal levels to become the World Junior Dance Silver medalists at only their 2nd Junior Worlds. Their rise in the world standings reflects Vanessa and Paul’s dedication to the sport, and the excellent guidance of their coaches. Like many past Canadian ice dance champions, Vanessa and Paul realize the importance of keeping the sport interesting and exciting. They strive to bring something new to their programs every year; they are known for introducing the

stationary rotating lift, and spinning equally well in both directions. Although only 17 and 16, they have skated together for 7 years, and balance on-ice and off-ice dance and free skate with grade 11 studies and time with family and friends.
