Welcome to the 2007-08 season at Ice Dance Elite, the program for competitive dance teams based at the Scarboro F.S.C. in Ontario, Canada. We are at the start of another exciting season, with 12 young, exciting teams raring to hit the competition circuit.
The 2006-07 season was our most memorable one to date. It started with a bang; our Pre-Novice Canadian Champions Kharis Ralph & Asher Hill won their first Novice event in Vancouver at the North American Challenge International event. This proved to be the last NACS ever to be held, so it was nice to take the gold home for the last time. Then it was off to the Junior Grand Prix circuit, where Vanessa Crone and Paul Poirier distinguished themselves by bringing home a bronze medal from Norway. Rounding out the year, Vanessa and Paul overcame a very serious injury to become Junior Canadian champions, and Kharis & Asher took the Novice title, the second title in a row for them, and the first time in our history that we have held these titles simultaneously. Vanessa and Paul then represented Canada at the Junior World Championships in Oberstdorf, placing 9th in their first appearance. It has been a tremendously exciting summer, full of hard work and great results. Our summer competitions in Lake Placid and at Thornhill yielded our best results ever (see news page!) I am so proud of all our skaters, whose commitment to hard work and performance level practice has seen them rise to higher and higher levels of excellence. We are very lucky to have at least two teams at every level this year, who push themselves and each other, but still support each other every step of the way. Our cheering section in Lake Placid was the envy of the event (not to mention Schnappi!)
I cannot say enough about the commitment of the coaching team at I.D.E. Donna, with her unsurpassed eye for talent and her love of run-through's, Juris, whose genius on skates is equaled only by his love for beer, and Jon, whose commitment to compulsory dances starting in the right place is only equaled by his wish to hit a golf ball in a straight line just once! Irina, who can make you really love sit-ups, and Yuri, (you'll believe a man can tango!) make our team not only knowledgeable and tough, but enthusiastic and committed to making our teams the best they can be. We share the same vision, and we share it with you.
To all of our skaters; Thanks for being so talented, so hard-working, and so much fun. Every day with you is like a new adventure, and watching you take our creations and make them your own is like seeing a work of art grow before our eyes. You all recognize that talent is just a beginning…………..and then it's what you make of it. There really is no substitute for hard work and determination. You are all our shining stars.
To our parents:-thanks for the endless cups of coffee, your commitment to the fundraising effort, and most of all, for trusting us with your most precious gift, your children. We will strive every day to live up to the faith you have placed with us.
And so together we move into the new season. We are full of promise, working, growing, and always striving for excellence. With support from the Scarboro F.S.C. board of directors, we are offering the most extensive dance program in our history. As a team, we look forward to the upcoming season as a unique opportunity to show ice dancing as a superb mixture of power, polish and performance.
